The Goods- My Shopping Trip

Yesterday I went out and about and found lots of goodies. Pretty much any store is dangerous for this teacher...

DOLLAR TREE- These are some trays I bought...6 of them...all blue...any ideas what I can do with these?

LOWES- Nuts and bolts- going to be used for my fine motor station and this...

LOWES-PVC pipes phones for reading

TARGET- I am thinking fine motor station or possibly as math manipulatives for sorting :)

TARGET- Huge markers for posters that I found on another blog. I tried them out and I'm in LOVE :)

I saw on another blog...I think Little Miss Kindergarten...she made 10 frames out of cookie sheets. These trays would be perfect for that too.

I bought a class set of these trays (with polka dots), and I plan on using them for math mats to keep materials from getting lost as often. They might work well as little sand trays though for word work. Maybe you could use them in a playdough center too. The kids could build words on the trays. Good luck finding a use for them! :)

I have a friend who has a class set and uses the trays when they do any painting activity so it doesn't make a mess on the table. Then they can just take the whole tray outside in the hall or wherever to dry!
I've also had another teacher friend ask a fast food restraunt if they would donate a class set of trays and they did!!! That's on my list do to!!

You could use foam letters on the trays and have kids make words on them as a center!

I'm really starting to think I need to try out those markers, I've heard so many good things!

Are the blue trays magnetic? I've been looking for something to use with magnetic letters....

I love your blog!! I wanted to share what I do with craft pom poms. I have two centers that they are in. One is fine motor... grab some tweezers and away they go moving them in to egg cartons, colored cups etc. In my math counting station, I use them to count with. For example, during Dr. Seuss week we counted them on Cat in the Hat mats. THe children would draw a number card from a pile and put that many red or white pom poms on the cat's hat.

I am thinking about getting trays too. I need to head to the Dollar store. I tried Target but they really didn't have much out. :(

hi
love the ideas...the trays can be used to keep activities organized on your shelves too...so kids just pick up the whole tray and take it to where they are going to explore/work with it.
i have question maybe it is a silly one but i am curious by nature:...did the nuts and bolts come with the letters on them?....or did you print or label them with something?...i have never seen them that way....

I use trays similar to these at our play doh center. We have a rule that the play doh must stay on or over the tray. This prevents students from cutting out a "cookie" then coming across the room dropping pieces on the ground and in the carpet just to offer me a bite of "cookie".

I have the same question as Laura, did the nuts come with the letters or did you put them on. If you put the letters on, what did you use?

Lots of fun finds! I just bought some pom poms at The Dollar Tree. I posted about what I'm doing with them at the following link if you are interested. http://lilcountrykindergarten.blogspot.com/2011/07/ice-cream-math-and-more-dollar-tree.html

I'm a new follower of your blog, too! :)

I use lots of trays in my classroom to "contain" the center activities. If there are parts or pieces or pencils needed, it helps students carry everything they need to their seats. I love using the pom poms with a pair of chopsticks and 2 bowls (on a tray, of course) in my fine motor center. The chopsticks either have to be the kind that are attached or rubber banded with a roll of paper in between.
